My Artifact for the group project Rise Fitness Gym.

This is the short commercial I shot with Aleki. The reason I made this commercial was to really quickly point out that hope shouldn't be lost to anyone who may have lost a leg. I specifically made this commercial to appeal to millennials or young adults who have lost a body part maybe from either war or an accident. the reason it was shot in an apartment and not a gym was because I wanted to make it feel personal. How many gym commercials do you see at a gym of just people working out? I wanted this to feel different because it is a different kind of gym. I used a lot of shots that moved the camera slightly to make it seem like a news interview and i wanted to get good B Roll of Aleki just adjusting to life without a leg (even though he has one). My only gripe with shooting this commercial was that i couldn't get a wheelchair but in hindsight i feel like this is better because it shows that you don't have to be bound to a wheelchair like a prison cell if you truly work for it.  The commercial is Aleki descibing that it was hard at first to deal with not having a leg but when he found Rise Fitness it gave him the confidence to get back out in the world. The only graphics in the commercial are for Rise Fitness and the domain risegym.com.

Visceral Response

My favorite painting of all time is called "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" This picture ever since I've first scene it, strikes me everytime. I love the use of negative space because it implies how vast and large the world the Wanderer is in. The use of lines within the picture describes monstrous mountains in the distance that holds my imagination. Another thing that intrigues me about the picture is not only the colors but it feels like your there with the texture. I can almost taste the salty air and feel the wind in your face. Not only do I like the look of this painting but it gives me a certain melancholy feel. The Wanderer looks alone in this painting and it gives me the feeling he's looking for something perhaps going on a grand adventure. I love this painting.

Personal Picture

I call this piece "Catching Up". I wanted to make the pictures lines appear appealing to the eye so the desk dividers make up 3 lines in the middle of the photo while trying to keep in mind the Tic-Tac-Toe line that makes any picture symmetrical. I do not have an expensive camera so I used my personal Iphone 5c.  I like this picture because it tells the story of "the struggle". Here it is all to real as students scramble to turn in assignments, myself included. After spring break can be a stressful time for students and I believe i captured it in this photo. While the lighting and the quality of the picture aren't perfect i believe this photo tells a good story.

Good Design/Bad Design

The Chargers Logo has come under some criticism recently and for completely justifiable reasons. First some backstory, the San Diego chargers have moved locations and changed their identity like many teams currently in the NFL. The SAN Diego Chargers earlier brand logo was nothing to scream about but you immediately knew who and what it was. Now if we want to look at the newest logo I kind of want to puke. It looks exactly like the  Dodgers logo?? The coloring scheme is not only exactly the same but I feel like it was just ripped off so that they didn't have to work that hard. They could've made something new but decided that was to hard.

Contrast, Harmony, and Balance

The Star Wars Universe is by far my favorite movie universe. I could dive into detail about a work of fiction that doesnt even exist. I'm obsessed with it. That is why I chose the VHS box art (special edition of course) from the very first film. Just looking at it is very pleasing to the eyes. The shadows around the image give the feeling of a cast open space that's untamed yet the bright shining middle part with our three heros gives a sense of (for me nostalgia) but for others a great feel for adventure. The shapes of the ships look sleek and fast. And the logo for Star Wars is right under our Heros and next to Obi Wan Kenobi. This picture is very nostalgic for me and speaks to me on a personal level. I love it.

Hello I'm Justin Badger.
I am a Junior majoring in Digital film production. I'm from California but don't get to excited because I'm from Northern California so no I don't know any famous people. Throughout my younger years till I went to high school I played football. My love for film came just from the fantastic films that come out seemingly every year. I hope to learn a lot from this class so that I can apply it to films. I want to make people feel a certain way and visual communication is going to help me.
I look forward to a great semester!
